MANILA, Philippines — Broadway icon Lea Salonga is once again lending her unmistakable voice to animation—this time in Netflix’s newly released animated film KPop Demon Hunters, where she voices the character Celine, a retired demon hunter turned mentor.
According to a feature on Netflix Tudum, Salonga provides vocals for several of the film’s musical moments and plays a key role in the story as the guide to Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—the next generation of demon-slaying K-pop idols.
Released globally on June 20, KPop Demon Hunters quickly became a chart-topping hit on Netflix, rising to the No. 1 spot in the Philippines in just a matter of days.
The film follows three glamorous K-pop stars—Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—who lead double lives as fierce protectors of their fans, battling supernatural forces by night while performing by day. Their latest threat? A rival boy band that turns out to be a group of demons in disguise.
Adding even more star power to the soundtrack are members of the popular K-pop group TWICE—Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung—who perform several of the film’s original songs.
While this marks Salonga’s first collaboration with a Korean-centered animation project, the role continues her celebrated legacy in the voice acting world. She is best known as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the titular character in Mulan—both of which earned her international acclaim.
KPop Demon Hunters is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
