Pasado na sa ikalawang pagbasa ng Kamara de Representantes ang panukala na magpapataw ng habambuhay na pagkakakulong sa mga smuggler, hoarder, at price manipulator ng mga produktong agrikultural.

Aamiyendahan ng House Bill 9284 ang Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Law upang ikonsidera bilang economic sabotage ang smuggling, hoarding, at price manipulation.

Sinabi ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez na palalakasin ng panukala ang kampanya laban sa mga nagsasamantala upang kumita ng malaki kahit na magresulta ito sa paghihirap ng iba.

“This is because we want to send a chilling effect on these cartels that have been operating for decades now. We really mean business this time. And our primary task here is to protect the welfare of the masses – provide them with the most affordable goods in the market,” sabi ni Romualdez.

“President Marcos – as Chief Executive and secretary of agriculture – fully appreciates the adverse impact of the smuggling of rice and other staples on farmers, fisherfolk and on consumers. We share his concern for the affected sectors,” dagdag pa ng lider ng Kamara.
